I wish I had the opportunity to be a
work from home mom while I was
working and raising my children. Looking back I really don’t
know how I managed a full time job, softball games, Girl
Scouts, swimming lessons, dance classes and so on. If you
are reading this you know that there aren’t enough hours in
a day to do all of these things and then have time to really
enjoy your children.
In today’s society if you walk up to a woman and ask what is
her career, if the answer is I’m a
stay-at-home mompeople
might tend to look down on her, but if she is a working mom,
they ask, how do you do it all? This happens to many women
and it makes it harder for them to choose between their
children and work.
The advantages for a stay-at-home mother are a
tremendous feeling of fulfillment, the thought of being
important and needed. The gratification she receives from
knowing she is giving her children a strong moral foundation
and a pleasure of giving as well as seeing her children
grow, and being an integral part of their lives.
There are also conflicts for that stay-at-home mom.
She may not have a sense of fulfillment, feeling her life is
limited and she is trapped. She may also feel that being at
home makes her lose her “self” and not having a high
self-worth.
My children are grown and married now but I feel that I need
to help other Christian Stay at Home Mothers and
Grandmothers and Boomers nurture the children who will
change the world.
We are a group of Christian Mothers, Stay at Home Moms,
Parents, Boomers, Working Moms

The news lately has
been full of talk
about recession.
That word scares
people, and rightly
so. We have heard
stories from our
folks about
recession, about
barely making it
through with enough
food and other
basics. We have a
lot of debt as a
nation right now, so
we would be in
trouble if our jobs
dropped off or we
had to take
reductions in pay.
We have forgotten
how to live within
our means in this
country. Even the
connotation of
necessities has
changed – cable is
not a necessity!
They were stressing
that we need to have
our resumes
up-to-date, be
willing to take cuts
in pay or at least,
not expect the
normal raises, but
be ready to look
around and market
ourselves, maybe
finding a second job
to fill in the gaps
or another job that
you could start now
and grow into
something permanent.
I appreciate getting
a heads up about our
economic situation.
Will we see a major
recession? Or even a
minor one? I don’t
know, I’m no
financial guru, but
I do know we need to
back up and deal
with our debt. We
need to know that we
can provide for what
we think is
important and
hopefully, not just
trying to get ahead
or cover the bare
necessities. We need
to think through how
we are spending our
income, what we can
change to spend
less, and how we can
make our economic
situation more
secure.
I have done work
from home for years
now. I love setting
my own hours. I work
hard and put in the
hours, but I can
also say, “I’m going
to a tea party with
my granddaughters on
Thursday”, and take
off for the
afternoon. Finding a
job that provides
people with services
and products that
are necessary will
be much more secure
than the novelty
shops and gift/toy
stores. People will
continue to need to
eat, clothe
themselves, bathe
and clean, transport
themselves and
things from place to
place, and get
medical service.
Basics. Maybe I left
something out, but
you get the drift.
More and more people
are finding that
Corporate America no
longer has our backs.
They have taken the
work to the cheaper
labor markets. When
was the last time
you knew of a
company that had the
welfare of their
employees at heart
as opposed to the
bottom line profit.
Not that profit for
a company isn’t
good. But, if it’s a
reputable company
with good product,
why can’t they have
both? When was the
last time you heard
of a president or
CEO taking less
profit for the sake
of job security for
his/her employees?
Show me the list and
the proof, I’d love
to know them. Or,
for that matter, how
often have you
called for customer
service and gotten
someone you could
understand that
spoke your language?
It isn’t just
manufacturing that
has been taken
overseas.
How secure is your
job?

Breast cancer is the second
leading cause of cancer death in American women. The
good news is that women whose breast cancer is found
early often go on to live long, healthy lives. Over
2 million breast cancer survivors are alive in
America today.
The exact cause of breast cancer is not known.
Factors that can increase a woman’s risk include
heredity, early puberty, late childbearing, obesity
and lifestyle factors such as heavy alcohol
consumption and smoking. But the biggest risk factor
for breast cancer is age -- just growing older. Most
breast cancers occur in women over the age of 50,
and women over 60 are at the highest risk.
Breast cancer symptoms vary widely -- from lumps to
swelling to skin changes -- and many breast cancers
have no obvious symptoms at all. breastcancer.org,
whose mission is to provide information and
community to those touched by this disease,
recommends that monthly breast self-exams be part of
your regular health care routine, and you should
visit your doctor if you experience breast changes.
If you’re over 40 or at a high risk for the disease,
you should also have an annual mammogram and
physical exam by a doctor.

breast cancer by donating a portion of the proceeds
from sales of its Pink Ribbon Bouquet. Visit

Remember that everything Has
God’s Fingerprints on It.
Our clergy
reminds us that everything that God has created is potentially
holy. Our task as humans is to find that holiness in what appear
to be unholy situations. They suggest that if we can learn to do
this; we will have learned to nurture our souls. It's easy to
see God's beauty in a beautiful sunrise, a snow-capped mountain,
the smile of a healthy child, or in ocean waves crashing on a
sandy beach. But we can learn to find the holiness in seemingly
ugly circumstances - difficult life lessons, a family tragedy,
or a struggle for life?
When our life is filled with the
desire to see holiness in everyday things, something magical
begins to happen. A feeling of peace emerges. We begin to see
nurturing aspects of daily living that were previously hidden to
us. When we remember that everything has God's fingerprints on
it that alone makes it special. If we remember this spiritual
fact while we are dealing with a difficult person or struggling
to pay our bills, it broadens our perspective. It helps us to
remember that God also created the person you are dealing with
or that, despite your struggle to pay your bills; you are truly
blessed to have all that you do.
Somewhere, in the back
of your mind try to remember that everything has God's
fingerprints on it, the fact that we can't see the beauty in
something doesn't suggest that it's not there. Rather it
suggests that we are not looking carefully enough or with a
broad enough perspective to see it.
When
I'm a Little Old Lady
I'll
live with my children
And bring them great joy.
To repay all I've had
From each girl and boy.
I shall draw on the walls
and scuff up the floor;
Run in and out
without closing the door.
I'll hide frogs in the pantry,
Socks under my bed.
Whenever they scold me,
I'll hang my head.
I'll run and I'll romp,
Always fritter away
The time to be spent
Doing chores every day.
I'll pester my children
When they are on the phone.
As long as they're busy
I won't leave them alone.
Hide candy in closets,
Rocks in a drawer,
And never pick up my clothes
From the floor.
Dash off to the movies
And not wash a dish.
I'll plead for allowance
Whenever I wish.
I'll stuff up the plumbing
And deluge the floor.
As soon as they've mopped it,
I'll flood it some more.
When they correct me,
I'll lie down and cry,
Kicking and screaming,
Not a tear in my eye.
I'll take all their pencils
And flashlights, and then...
When they buy new ones,
I'll take them again.
I'll spill glasses of milk
To complete every meal,
Eat my banana and
Just drop the peel.
Put toys on the table,
Spill jam on the floor,
I'll break lots of dishes
As though I were four.
What fun I shall have,
What joy it will be to
Live with my children....
The way they lived with me!
